Quilting Renditions: A Colorado Mainstay
Centennial has a history unlike any other city in Colorado. It was only just incorporated in 2001, making Centennial (unlike what its name reflects) an infant city. It boasts over 100,000 residents, making it Colorado's tenth largest city. Centennial is home to the Streets at South Glenn, which offers a variety of shops, boutiques, and restaurants.
Two well-known pattern companies—Quilting Renditions and Kate Colleran Designs, formerly Seams Like a Dream—call Centennial home.
Kari Nichols, the owner of Quilting Renditions, is a native Coloradan. She was raised in a family of seamstresses and grew up surrounded by creativity, fabric, and, of course, quilts. Nichols’ love of color and design were first revealed in her stained-glass creations. She later began designing quilt patterns under the Mountainpeek Creations name, as well as managing one of the largest quilt stores in the Rocky Mountain region—Holly’s Quilt Cabin.
Nichols’ patterns are sold throughout the United States and internationally. They give quilters unique and contemporary designs for multiple skill levels. The patterns have been featured in multiple publications, including McCall’s Quilting, Quilter, Quick Quilts, and more. Retiring from the retail store has given her time to design patterns under her new company, Quilting Renditions.
Nichols says, “I feel very blessed to be able to do what I love. The designs, I feel, are truly a gift and meant to be shared. Quilts have so much love built in, and they always find the person they belong to.” Nichols’ designs are almost always begun on graph paper. “If it can be seen in black and white,” she says, “it will be wonderful in color.” Today’s technology allows for the fabric to be seen virtually and changes to be made easily before actually cutting any fabric. When Nichols is not quilting, you will find her enjoying her grandchildren, traveling, and occasionally jumping out of airplanes!
