Bound to Be Quilting: A Dynamic Duo
Mimi Hollenbaugh and Pat Syta founded Bound to Be Quilting, a pattern company located in Parker, which was once a hunting area of Native Americans and a refuge for settlers seeking gold and fortune in the 1850s. Parker is now a suburb of Denver. This Parker-based dynamic duo has a prolific collection of patterns for all skill levels.
Syta started sewing when she was about twelve years old. She began quilting in 1991 when a friend talked her into going to a class. Syta was supposed to make an eight-block sampler, but instead she made an 18-block sampler. Two years later, Syta began teaching at a local shop in Anchorage, Alaska. She later moved to Parker and promptly became active in three guilds. Syta and some friends started the Parker Piecekeepers Quilt Guild. She also became director of Quilt Colorado in 2012 and Program Chair of Arapahoe County Quilters. Syta has authored two books: Bear’s Paw Plus (Martingale) and Red at Night (Piece by Piece Memories).
Mimi Hollenbaugh started quilting in 1983. Her first love is appliqué, but she is drawn to many forms of quilting and needlework. During her time in England, Hollenbaugh designed quilts for Makower Fabrics, which were featured in British Patchwork and Quilting and Fabrications magazines.
