2020---1

I am so sorry for the long absence from blogging. I have been caught up in and inundated with a myriad of issues that have pulled my attention away from blogging. What a whirlwind year it has been! I can't believe that we endured a year with COVID-19. The wake of despair and tragedy that it left and is still leaving is simply unbelievable and unimaginable. My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to everyone who was affected by COVID-19 whether it be in the loss of a loved one, a loss of a job or relationship, the loss of a business, etc.  My...

Quilting Trends in 2021

If our block-of-the-month projects are any indication of what’s coming up in 2021, we have two very exciting but divergent trends that promise to add to our repertoire of quilt styles and skills. First up is Moda’s My Favorite Color sew along. This quilt uses all solids—not fabrics that read solid—but pure, unadulterated solid solids. There is nothing to distract the eye in this quilt. In a quilting culture where quick and easy has become the mantra, hexies do not take center stage. These quilts are by reputation extremely time consuming, not only in the prep work but in the actual piecing time as well. Hexies, however, are experiencing a resurgence in interest and in technology. Templates...

Trends: Circles and Curves

Another trend . . . . circles and curves. Did they ever really go away? I’m not sure, but I don’t think so. They have, however, taken on a modern twist, and they provide a wonderful canvas to show off your quilting skills. Sew Kind of Wonderful is a great resource for modern curves and turns. Mini Wonderful Curves is a book packed full of fun quilts to make using the Quick Curve Ruler. We have an upcoming class on the Circular Log Cabin. This is a beautiful, modern twist on the traditional block. Select bright, contemporary colors for a...
